Gerry Hughes, MRTPI, FRICS
Board Trustee
Gerry is a globally recognised urban planner. Since qualifying from Queen’s University Belfast in 1984 he has developed a career as a specialist in advising on major urban change projects, especially focussing on the delivery of these projects by combining public sector assets and private investment. This has included work on waterfront projects in many cities in the UK and Ireland- including London, where he is currently based. His first ever assignment as a consultant was the production of the original Masterplan for the Belfast Waterfront – at that time termed Laganside.
Between 2015 and 2019 he held the position of CEO at GVA – the leading independent UK real estate advisory firm. Gerry was the European business lead for Avison Young and a member of the firm’s Executive Committee, before setting up his own consultancy business. Gerry is a mentor for RTPI and a regular speaker and commentator on Urban Planning topics.
Gerry is an Honorary Professor in the School of the Built Environment, Queen’s University Belfast.
